I recently joined Neita Fran Ward, owner of Valerosa Designs and Gallery and Sandra Newton, TISD’s Director of Visual and Performing Arts, on Art Connections, KTBB‘s Saturday morning radio show. We talked about how creative conversations can change everything in family and community.
I always learn stuff when I show up to talk with Neita Fran and Sandy. (Sign up for all our Camp Krafve Fireside Talk Radio FREE interviews and blogs.)
What I Learned
For instance, did you know that for the third year in a row that TISD won the NAMM‘s National Award for Best Communities for Music Education?
Nationwide only 686 winners, according to Sandy, and 80 of them were in Texas this year! Of over a thousand districts in Texas, little ole Tyler snagged the honor! Of course, the real winners are the creative kids who grow up to be confident, creative adults.
“When you have all the puzzle pieces that’s what makes it happen,” acknowledged Sandy.
“It’s something to be very proud about, very pleased about. And you’re setting these kids up for a lifetime of success,” added Neita Fran. Happily, they specifically mentioned the Tyler Youth Orchestra and the Tyler Museum of Art, to name just a couple of outstanding art-enhancing community organizations here.
Creative Conversations
From there we talked about all kinds of creative conversations. What are some innovative ways we can affect change in family and community? For just a sampling of all the stuff we talked about:
- Education and self-education
- Encouraging your kids to be critical thinkers
- Ideas for how to write a book
- Resources for first time authors
- The boomerang effect of welcome
- How to step into fear and do it anyway
- Why we need uniting conversations in family and community
I love talking to these two tender-hearted women. They are so much fun and very passionate about encouraging creative people! I hope you’ll listen in.
Thank you to every single person who passes on this positive broadcast of Art Connections! Happily, positive messages do take root and grow into something redemptive and beautiful. May God bless us all, dear ones, as together we offer hope to a hurting world!
🙂

We LOVE to hear from YOU!
How is art helping your community have authentic conversations? What keeps you from bringing up hard topics? How is your church leading the charge when it comes to gentle life-changing conversations?
May we pray together?
Dear good Father, You are the Master Creator, the One who designed us to reflect Your image. You engage us in an ongoing conversation of such beauty and magnitude it takes our breath away. Help us pass on Your love and effervescent joy to others. You hear us when we pray. You inspire us to unite with creativity and commitment. Your beautiful, gentle Spirit offers comfort and help, if we will but listen. Teach us to hear You, dear Lord. Help us offer healthy conversations to unite family and community. Bless us now because that’s Your heart’s desire. In Jesus’s name. Amen

More Great Quotes
Finally, I can’t resist learning things the easy way. So here are a few of my favorite quotes about creative conversations from recent guests on the show:
“Everything comes out of relationships. All good things come out of relationships.” ~Neita Fran Ward, from our conversation, Women of Influence. Unleashing Creativity with Neita Fran Ward.
“Right now, my daughter is very into butterflies and bugs. We’re always looking them up and making charts.” ~Whitney Patterson on creating a Childhood Filled with Wonder for your kids.
“The adventure is in believing that (where) God is taking your family, your children, so much is hidden away in this spouse of yours. The husband’s job is to dig it out. Well, that makes for an exciting life.” ~Jack Sharpe
