Who doesn’t need some fresh ideas for Easter, especially if you’re hoping to inspire faith in the hearts of little ones? And have some fun in the process. Here are a few ideas from Camp Krafve for our little ones.

The fairies have been busy preparing for Easter at my house.

Easter Ideas #1: Fairy Friends

What in the world has something as silly as fairy friends have to do the resurrection of our Savior who paid for our sins with His death on the cross? Good question.

This could be the silliest Easter idea I’ve ever had. But my grands and I are having so much fun in our fairy garden right now, it’s spilled over to Resurrection Day.

If you listen in to the many conversations Anna and I have on Fireside Talk Radio you may have heard us say often, Imagination is the foundation of compassion. (In my book The Well, I explore the many ways Jesus’ method for sparking imagination can lead to compassion and changed communities.)

It’s impossible to love other people if you don’t have empathy. Empathy forms when we are able to imagine other people’s challenges.

Try to Imagine Such Love

So, we’re big believers in imagination as a tool to teach kids empathy and compassion. How can you imagine Jesus’s death on the cross, heaven, eternity, if you’ve never been taught to let your mind imagine the unlikely? Find out how you can know Jesus in a personal, life-changing way.

Plus, I loved the ideas fairies in our garden as a kid. Among my grands, some know we’re pretending and others still wonder if fairies could really be true. We’ll let them wonder a little longer.

All the while we talk about how an amazing God created the first garden with tender, thoughtful love. And set salvation in motion from before the beginning of humanity.

Easter Ideas #2: Bunnies and Chicks

Easter Ideas and Bunnies
Bunnies show up on my Easter table and throughout the year.

Seriously, I had just about eliminated the Easter Bunny from all our Resurrection Day festivities and replaced him with lambs.

However, one of my grands loves bunnies, so, POOF! We’re back to bunnies in all our decor for every season. Now, we buy bunny paper plates at Easter to use all year long.

Plus, when our girls were tiny, my dad borrowed baby chicks for our girls. What a big treat!

Anyway, I really LOVE all the little critters God made. Especially out here in the country where we regularly spot bunnies, baby foxes, fawns, baby raccoons, birds, butterflies, you name it!

In summary, if your kids or grands have favorite animals, why not incorporate them into all your decorations? Just for the fun of it. Besides, animals teach kids compassion and responsibility. What’s not to like?

Easter Ideas #3: The Egg Snatcher

We’re not sure if the Egg Snatcher is a a naughty bunny or a silly raccoon. Some of our grands even suspect their dear Poppy of mischief.

Throughout the year, the Egg Snatcher regularly steals our breakfast and leads us on an Easter egg scavenger hunt. Eventually we find breakfast on a picnic table outside.

I’m actually prioritizing this year and the Egg Snatcher‘s next visit won’t be until summer this year. But it’s a darling idea, especially for small gatherings. The kids love breakfast outside.

Easter Ideas #4: Picnics

Speaking of picnics, why not take Easter lunch outside? Picnics are the perfect excuse to use paper plates and keep everything simple for the moms. (I also recommend picnics for Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, well, anytime really.)

Plus, picnics make it easy to join up with other young families in a potluck, picnic basket celebration. Added bonus? Instead of struggling to sit still at the table, kids can run free nearby while adults relax.

Easter Ideas #5: The Tradition of Flexibility

Our family loves to stay flexible and spontaneous. Spontaneity allows us to respond when we hear of a need we can meet. We can also adjust as our kids and grandkids grow up. Or as the old folks, ahem, us, get too tired to keep doing the same traditions. (Think Easter picnic this year instead of Egg Snatcher at my house.)

Find specifics about making your own Road to the Resurrection.

Happily, I recommend flexibility as a family tradition for every holiday. New people and new ideas make life fun to share.

Easter Ideas #6: Resurrection Eggs

If you’re groaning under the weight of all my silliness at Easter, please know I take this holiday very seriously. Jesus’ resurrection is the truth we live for.

“The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~I Corinthians 15:56-57

If, like me, the fun is only part of the joy of Resurrection Day, here is the link to the Resurrection Eggs I found a couple of years ago and still use. So pretty and easy to print off.

Easter Ideas #7: Road to the Resurrection

Finally, almost accidentally, I started my favorite Easter tradition during COVID. Frustrated by the isolation, I invited my neighbors to experience the Stations of the Cross in my front yard. Yep, six feet apart and everything.

To make your own Stations of the Cross for your family and friends, simply print out the same Resurrection Eggs printables from Life Your Way. I laminate them in case it rains. Then, gently tack them to the trees in my front year. Or, you can also put them on stakes. Crosses would be nice.

This year, I’ll put one Resurrection Egg under each sign and let our little grands tell me the story. We’ll practice our Road to the Resurrection long before Easter Sunday. Just in case candy-filled eggs are too distracting. 😉

Meditation

If you’ve been reading our stuff for long, you know we love mixing serious and fun together. I really like the Road to the Resurrection because in one quick, fun moment, you’re teaching the next generation to appreciate meditation.

A lot has been written by a new generation of Christians about mindfulness. Sometimes my generation is confused and calls meditation “Eastern New Age religion.” Fortunately for us all, meditation has been a Judeo/Christian tradition for centuries.

Meditation and gratitude are just some of the ways Christians can fight back against the pervasive fear and distress permeating our culture right now. Next week, Andy Clapp joins us to talk about ways we can restore hope and joy in our own hearts and families. I hope you’ll join us.

❤️ Happy Resurrection Day from Our Family to Yours! ❤️

Please know when we thank God for blessings, we always count YOU!

A little donkey in an egg to remind us that the crowds praised Jesus, shouting, “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Blessed is the kingdom of our father David That comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
(From Mark 11)

We LOVE to hear from YOU!

Which family traditions are you holding onto? When you talk about Jesus’ resurrection, what personal stories do you share? How are you teaching your children compassion and empathy?

🙂

May we pray together?

Dear good Father, we praise You! Can it be true? You love us enough to send Your own Son to be our Savior? To save us from our sins? To prove Your power to forgive and give new life by rising from the dead? How can such a miracle be true, dear God? Thank You for being the Miracle Worker. The One Who Saves. Thank You for Your beautiful Son, Your Beloved One. We love You so much! And we are so grateful for the life You give us. For the joy, comfort, and power we find in You! Give us words to tell others the blessings they, too, can enjoy. Allow us the privilege of comforting and empowering our family and friends, even strangers. Teach us to abide in Your beautiful Spirit. Bless us now because that is Your heart’s desire. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
