We’re letting you in on a BIG secret! This week Dr. John English and Jason Wright did all my work for me. You are in for a treat!! We call Bethesda Health Clinic the antidote to the healthcare crisis. We wish every community had such a clinic!
I’m passing along Jason’s Texas Titan interview with our dear friend Dr. John English. If you’re not from East Texas, you will be so encouraged to know there’s hope out there. This could work in your community, too. I hope you love sharing this interview with your friends. For sure, you’ll LOVE what John says about health care! The Health Care Conversation
Thank you to Jason for featuring this good man on his show. John and his wife, Grace, truly are Texas Titans when it comes to big faith and even bigger hearts.
John and Grace are beloved friends and every good word said about them is true. (For Dr. Grace English’s story in her own words, click here.) Their ability to bring people together is changing the way East Texans get excellent long-term health care.
Since Jason did all the hard work by interviewing John, I get to relax a little as I pass on their wisdom. What a treat! (To sign up for our FREE weekly blog, click here.)
I’m adding a picture of myself here to keep this blog extra personal. Okay, it probably doesn’t get any dorkier than that. But one of my happiest moments was decorating a cake for Bethesda Health Clinic’s Birthday Bash fundraiser in 2018. (For Dawn Franks’ thoughts about raising generous children, click here.) More than anything it is a joy to share what the clinic means to our community.
What Bethesda Means to Us All
Bethesda truly unites our community. All man-made differences fall away at the clinic around a common purpose. Volunteer doctors, dentists, health care providers unite with patients, civic and religious leaders, donors, staff, and volunteers.
The clinic brings together everyone. Roles blur and overlap as everyone pitches in. If only all communities could unify around something so beautiful! (For Rabi Neil Katz’s thoughts on community unity, click here.)
Bethesda’s purpose? “A Christ-centered ministry that provides affordable, high-quality care for the working uninsured and others we are able to serve.”
If you are serious about prayerfully starting a similar clinic in your community, contact me and I will get info for you via the Bethesda’s staff. If you would like to join this amazing effort by making a donation to support something good and real in this world, click here.
Why Bethesda?
Don’t miss this great video with Rocky Gill and Alan Roseman, explaining why so many of us love giving to the clinic.
One of Bethesda’s symbols is an angel, as in the story of the angel who stirred the water at the pool of Bethesda. (John 5) You may recognize the miracle Jesus did there. This year a virtual event, Wings of Hope, will raise important funds to support all the good that happens at the clinic.
My mom always combined her giving with Christmas shopping. I lost count of how many gift baskets we received that meant Christmas spending went to nonprofits in our area. Mom was a genius at stewardship! (For more about the lasting impact of one dear mom, click here.)
The clinic is serious, especially when folks are really sick. But on a lighter note, the fundraiser includes a silent auction. I think of silent auctions as party favors for giving to a great cause. Silly, I know, but also a fun way to help totally serious work. Here’s a link in case you want to shop Christmas the easy, generous way, like my Mom.
“Wings of Hope” Replaces the “Bethesda Birthday Bash” for 2020
This year Bethesda will be VIRTUAL starting September 6 to 20, 2020! If you would normally purchase a ticket to the Birthday BASH, please consider donating $125 to the Wings of Hope Virtual Event! Thank you for considering a donation to Bethesda.
Finally, thanks again to Jason Wright for his great interview with John, Texas Titans podcast #53! And congrats on your successful show!
May we pray together?
Good Father in heaven, O how grateful we are to see your people doing something kind and humane in your honor! Thank You for manifesting Your vision through the staff and volunteers at Bethesda. We are so grateful for the way people get help for their bodies, minds, and spirits there. Bless the folks at our wonderful clinic, Lord, with the strength and courage to face this crazy year’s challenges. Thank You for Your ongoing presence in our lives. Show Yourself powerful and tender today through the good work of Your people at the clinic and in all places where You are glorified. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
We LOVE to hear from YOU!
In what ways are you taking care of yourself during this pandemic? How do you find ways to unite your community? What’s your favorite volunteer effort?
