Can I handle a little stress? To talk about how to have better community conversations? You bet! We’re living in a time when better community conversations mean the difference between preserving freedom or losing it to anarchy. I’ve lived through enough American history to know we still have hope.

A future in television? Probably not! In this interview on KETK, you can see me breathing deeply and staying focused. But thankfully, Sarah Alegre is so professional and warm, she calmed me down immediately. Naturally, we talk about how great community conversations can change everything!

Nope. No Future in TV for Me!

Notice how I looked at the wrong camera at one point? I’m too short to see which camera was on. Actually, I looked at the wrong camera a bunch. Thankfully, behind the scenes genius editor Megan knew how to fix my mistakes.

In our quick moment together, Sarah asked me for great ways to reboot conversations in our home, our church, our community, and, yes, even our culture as a whole. I share two here. (And many more in my books!)

You can have healthier, more influential conversations today! We can each make a difference. God is calling us from lonely to leadership, from isolation to influence! Listen in now.

Conversational Adventures

Ironically, even though I’m a chicken on TV, I’m a big proponent of conversational adventures. So there I am on TV breathing deeply and stepping into my fear.

Since Jill Bateman Cobb suggested they invite me to speak on KETK, I wanted to thank her publicly. I’ve known Jill since high school. Of the many things I love about Jill, she really cares about this community and the people who live here. Certainly, she has a ton of integrity. I am very thankful for her in oh-so-many ways.

Plus, dear Molly Simms Nelson gave me a pep talk minutes before we went on air. Nice teamwork, right?

Aren’t we blessed to live in a neighborhood where our media friends want to give attention to positive community efforts like all the nonprofits in East Texas? (For a shining example, check out East Texas’s antidote to the health care crisis.)

I’m really thankful for all the air time KETK gives every-day East Texans as together we make our community a more loving, safe, equality-loving, justice-loving, freedom-loving neighborhood.

As you know, God keeps blessing us even when we don’t deserve it. I certainly felt blessed to be on television with Sarah. And I feel blessed to be together with you in this battle. Together we can create better communities through healthy conversational adventures!

Thank you to our friends at Valerosa Designs and Gallery for offering signed copies of my books.

We LOVE to hear from YOU!

Which conversations do we need to have more of in East Texas? How are you talking to the next generation in your family? Which of Jesus’s conversation tools do you use effectively every day?

May we pray together?

Dear good Father, You love Your kids, even when we’re shouting and bickering with each other. Teach us to use the communication tools Your Son demonstrated for us when He walked the earth. Let us speak carefully and respectfully to others, even bullies. Help us love others even when they reject us. You love us unreservedly with unfailing, devoted love. Oh, how we want to be more like our good Father! Teach us to be kids who honor You by loving others. Bless us now because that’s Your heart’s desire. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
