“Cathy, you don’t have the credentials to write a marriage book.” If I heard it once, I heard it dozens of times as I showed publishers my manuscript. Okay, so what credentials do I have? Conversations skills, that’s for sure!

Yep, I have a degree in journalism from Walter Cronkite’s old school, the University of Texas. Of course, if you know who Walter Cronkite was, you’re probably old like me! But I can’t help it. He still impresses me, even decades after his death. Hook ‘em Horns!

Young or old, with families gathering for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we all need better conversations skills.

Talk About Conversations!

My real genius talking to anyone about, well, almost anything. That really comes in handy when family gets together. I want you to be courageous and talk about the things your family and church NEED to talk about.

The truth is, with a little courage, we can address any topic, even the most awkward. For a great example, check out the most awkward topic we’ve done yet on Fireside Talk Radio. (Thank heavens, Dr. McAndrew was awesome!)

But what really surprises me is how much other people are downloading podcasts about conversation skills.

Of course, heaven knows, we’re living in a culture that needs less arguing, more conversation. Maybe it makes sense after all.

Most Downloaded Conversation Skills

Here are our most popular episodes about conversation skills. Hmm. Gratitude and listening to God’s questions. Seems to be a pattern here.

#1 Gratitude, Communicating with Wisdom, Co-Host Ellen Trant and Cathy in a Personal Conversation, 127,848

#2 Blaming God? The Tender Questions God Asks Us with Paula Quinn, 82,058

Am I the only one who thinks being mad at God goes together with bad communication skills? Those top two interviews about conversation skills seem destined for each other.

Maybe, like me, you tend to blurt out the most awkward things. Or when you don’t, you get mad at yourself for the things you wish you’d said. If so, I have great news!

As you look down this list, please think of folks you could share these amazing experts with. If better conversations are on your immediate agenda, these episodes are for just for YOU!

Video, Television, Oh My!

Communication and conversation are my specialties, I guess, so folks interview me.

My son, the resident expert on all things technological, tells me no one reads books anymore. I disagree. But, in case you love videos as much as he does, here are some conversation skills videos some we blogged about!

Speeches About Communication

Occasionally, someone will video one of my speeches. I try to post them to YouTube when I can.  Here are a few links for you.

Thank YOU!!

Well, that’s a lot of stuff about conversation skills. But none of it would matter without YOU!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing all the interviews with experts. We are really proud to join with you in changing our culture one conversation at a time!

Feel free to contact us any time! We thank God for YOU!

May we pray together?

Dear good Father, prayer is a conversation with you, the Creator of the universe. Wow! Thank You for hearing our prayer. Please help us talk to each other in gentle ways. We want conversations that result in better emotional and spiritual connection, especially in our families. Give us grace to pass on to other. Teach us to speak in a way that honors You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and let our life today honor You. Bless us now because that is Your heart’s desire. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We LOVE to hear from YOU!

Which conversations make you feel uncomfortable? When has a simple conversation changed you life? How do you initiate difficult conversations with your kids or spouse?
