So, this week when I ran through my Pinterest notifications, I found this one! Yes, my book is on someone else’s Pinterest page. Wow! Silly I know, but can I just pause and be amazed.

I found my book on someone else's Pinterest page. Pretty Cool!

Pinterest

Pinterest, or as I called it for years amid my kids’ laughter, PinInterest, is like a free magazine. I’m all about the free stuff. Plus, tons of pictures.

People keep telling me I should leverage it to reach more people, but social media baffles me. Crazy I know, but social media is so confusing. And like our kids’ ages, it changes all the time. Honestly, who can remember how old your kids are?

Of course, you can find my Pinterest boards full of terrific stuff I snagged from creative people. I try to put original posts on there, too. But for some reason Pinterest does not give me credit for many of them. Hmm. Beyond my pay grade. Oh well.

Forgetful Me

Anyway, it turns out that A Baker’s Perspective is on the virtual tour Celebrate Lit hosted for Marriage Conversations: from co-existing to cherished. Jessica interviewed me more than a month ago. Then, I totally forgot to post it.

Besides, I really like catapulting other people’s messages out there with our blog. I get self-conscience when our blog gets me-focused. However, I loved Jessica’s questions so much. And you know how I collect great questions.

So, here is the interview. Thanks for being my friend and reading through it. I hope you find out something about me you didn’t know (and I bet you will.) And I really hope you will visit Jessica’s site and see all the other great stuff she has there.

Jessica Interviews Me

Hello Cathy and welcome to the blog! Can you describe your writing process?

Messy. In tears. On my knees. Maybe your readers can relate, Jessica.

Studying the Bible has been a passion since I first found back out in the 80s that Jesus loves me. Me? Really? I immediately began stockpiling truth in my heart because I was desperate. I needed God’s love in my life.

Fortunately, my terrific editors clean up my mess and make me look like I know what I’m doing.

When you are not writing, what do you like to do?

Build library forts under chairs. Read with flashlights under the covers.  Stake out my garden for fairies. Eight of the most entertaining humans I’ve ever known call me Super Gram.

Oh I love that name – Super Gram! What author has impacted your writing the most?

Storytelling is my goal, in order to live up to the impact James Michener had on my love of literature. Plus, I love John Trant’s book, The Blessing. Of course, all of Josh McDowel’s work, too.

Do you have any research stories to share?

Much like what you’re doing, Jessica, we built a catapult. Not a platform.

When we’re on air (Fireside Talk Radio), sometimes I hit mute so I won’t distract our listening friends with my sobbing. I am amazed at the courage of people who share their  stories. I LOVE researching tough topics by talking in person to experts with their own story to tell.

God is really blessing us. We are grateful.

What’s your go-to bible verse during times of difficulty?

It’s hard to pick just one, but my life verse is:

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”~ Luke 11:13 NKJV

Especially in difficult times, it’s good to be reminded first that God’s gifts for us are often unexpected. His definition of “good” is seriously beyond our comprehension. But second, I like picturing His dazzling, gentle Spirit in my heart as my Best Friend and Companion in ALL circumstances. There’s comfort and joy in hanging out with Him.

If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be and why?

Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird. I’m pretty sure dinner would be a picnic in the branches of a climbing tree! She’d attract many friends to join us, like chirping birds perched on the limbs. Laughing and whispering sacred secrets. Who can resist Scout’s curiosity and gumption?

If we were to peek at your nightstand/coffee table/counter/kitchen table, what interesting things would we find?

Hymnals, just in case. My family calls me an “enthusiastic” singer. Ten current nonfiction books and two fiction books as my reward for reading nonfiction. In my pantry, the ingredients for My Mom’s Hot Sauce. On a nearby table, craft paint for our latest project.

This is our craft table straightened up! Creative chaos. Our fairies decided they needed two-story houses.

It’s time for a fun girls weekend, and you can only invite authors to attend. Who would you pick and why?

Could I have two weekends or maybe three? There are so many fun authors out there who I am crazy about. But for a fun weekend, here’s my top four right now.

Deb Butterfield (Claiming Her Inheritance and many others) because of her imagination and beautiful heart.

Martha Hook (The Springdale Series) because she’s my mentor and an amazing writer. Plus, she’s full of gentle wisdom.

Sandra Merville Hart (A Musket in My Hands and many more) because she knows enough history to engage me endlessly. And Sandra collects recipes so maybe she’d cook for us. Plus, well, she’s just tons of fun.

Deb DeArmond (Don’t Go To Bed Angry: Stay Up and Fight) because she is insightful and hilarious. I interviewed her for an upcoming episode. I’d like to get to know her better

What are you working on next?

Influence in a Flash is the sequel to The Well. Parenting Conversation follows our book, Marriage Conversations: from Co-existing to cherished.

And I am truly delighted to be co-author of a book with our daughter and my co-host on Fireside Talk Radio, Anna Krafve Pierce. We’re writing a book based on her experience as an artist, educator, and mommy.

Finally, we’re catapulting out messages each week to help people have the conversational adventures they crave. Jesus is the best communicator the world has ever known. He wants us to have the skills we need to be victorious and influential in our realms!

Thank YOU Cathy for taking the time to chat with me!!

❤️❤️❤️

I Am Grateful!

Thanks again, Jessica! I love your questions. So much fun. I am grateful to you for this and all you do each day. Keep up the good work!

And I am GRATEFUL for YOU! Thank you for reading through all this folderol about me. It’s kinda awkward putting so much of life out there online. But I keep trusting God will be honored. You know, His strength displayed in our weakness. I hope you’re daring great things, trusting God’s strength, too!

We LOVE to hear from YOU!

What seems too big or too awkward for you this week? In what way has God surprised you lately, on Pinterest or anywhere? How do you spend time with the youngsters in your life?

🙂

May we pray together?

Dear good Father, just when we least expect it, You send us encouragement. For those of us who struggle with fear and insecurity, You seem to lavish us with comfort and strength, Your strength. I thank You, dear Father, for giving us so many friends, old and new, to share life with. Your generosity in friendships and fellowship daily proves You love us. Help us pay attention so we catch the little surprises you send us. Please bless two new friends, Kay and Jessica, this week in particular as they post on social media. And keep blessing all those who write for Your glory. Thank You for blessing us now for that is Your heart’s desire. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
